Meaning of Pesh

Pesh – Peshsh – Pessh
“Deploy, expand (wings in protection)

In Abydos, in the famous temple of Seti I, in the access corridor to the Osireion, located in the south wing of the temple on the south wall (left) of the stairs, there is a scene interesting, with unique hieroglyphic sign.

The god Thoth speaks to Seti I:
Straddling the Columns 35 – 36 Thoth is called: Great language of Ra, master of hieroglyphics, servant of the god (priest) of Maat, who resides in the temple of Seti I.

He pronounces a long historical and mythological discourse.

And Thoth to say (column 14): ….. I found that you (Egypt) united, you established the truth inside, (col 15) he united everyone, you have pacified all the gods, you have provided for the altars, you have multiplied for them the loaves of bread in excess, of their daily offerings, (Col 16) you have purified the sanctuaries and temples, you have re-upheld their tables of offerings . You have fortified Egypt for its master, you have covered (in protection, with its wings) you even the Rekhyt , (col 17) you have been for her like a copper wall, its flint roofs, at the gates of brazen, that could not cross the foreign countries you have (col., nourished Hemmemet (=humans), you have born generations …

Budge, E. A., An Egyptian Hieroglyphic Dictionary (p. 251) and The Wörterbuch (I, 560, 13) gives as meaning the verb pS>pSS>psS “Extend, extend “, probably “spread wings as a sign of protection “.
